Behind the scenes on our LEGO shoot! When I first pitched this concept to Eriq Wities, I completely underestimated how challenging it would be.

I thought - it’ll be great. I’ll just sit there and pose while Eriq does all the hard work, animating around me! Easy for me!

It turns out that being frozen for 5 hours straight for one continuous take is not easy. The hardest part for me was the facial expressions. You know how when you’re asked to smile for a photo, it gets kind of tiring if you have to hold the smile for too long? Try that for 5 hours 😁😁😬😬🥶

Thankfully, we did two tests before we did the final take (you can see them in my stories).

The first was an animation test - where we tested all the different LEGO builds, figured out the intermediate transition build states, and also figured out how to “float” the dinosaurs in mid-air by putting white supporting LEGO bricks underneath. We worked out all the kinks in this test so we would be able to move as rapidly as possible when it was time to do it for real. I am completely in awe of Eriq Wities’ stop motion skills, who brought this idea to life like magic.

The second test was for facial expressions - where we focused on my movements. From this test I learned how hard it was to keep a facial expression still, and learned to find the pacing to relax my face in between shots. Moving in slow motion is hard - and moving at 1/1000th of normal speed is completely counter intuitive.

In our third attempt, we did it for real, putting the two together in one continuous take, which is what you see in this video!
