Both sides of Elvis fourth Sun single made Top-5 in the Billboard Country chart. Baby Let's Play House and B-side I'm Left You're Right She's Gone gave Elvis his first taste of national success.
His love of country music started well before this Billboard Country Top-40 success. When he was ten years old he entered his first talent contest. His choice for the song was the country music classic, Red Foley's Old Shep.
His only appearance at the Grand Ole Opry may not have gone down well but he was a very popular and regular performer on the Opry's main competitor, Louisiana Hayride.
In 1955 Billboard magazine voted Elvis the "Most Promising C&W Artist".
The same year Cash Box voted Elvis the "Most Promising New C&W Artist".
When RCA signed Elvis, their publicity material said of Elvis, "We've acquired the most sought after new artist in country music today!"
