Norman Smith was George Martin's engineer on all the Beatles recordings
from the beginning, right up to Rubber Soul.
He then went on to work as a producer on most of Pink Floyd's 1960s singles and albums. He also produced the Pretty Things classic album SF Sorrow, often cited as the first concept album.
All this and, as Hurricane Smith, a singing hitmaker himself, including a top-10 on both sides of the Atlantic in 1972 with Oh Babe What Would You Say?
