Two years before the deadly collision of BAL Flight 2937 and DHL 611 on July 1, 2002, Two jumbo jets with 677 people on board almost collided in eerily similar circumstances. They, too, had been confused by a similar problem: conflicting direction from air traffic control and the planes' own TCAS system.
