Tens of thousands of people travelled to their villages and hometowns from Dhaka and adjacent districts on Friday crowding water, road and rail transports as Eid-ul-Fitr was a couple of days away.
The post-Ramadan Eid this year will be celebrated either on May 2 or May 3 based on moon sighting while the official Eid vacation starts on May 1.
On Friday, the first day of the weekend, home-bound people thronged launch terminals, rail stations, ferry terminals and bus terminals while shortage of transports, severe congestion at ferry terminals and exorbitant fares made their journey miserable.
People were seen travelling to their destinations by overcrowded launches, ferries, speedboats, trains and buses, while many also travelled on train roofs defying the law.
