"Útiseta is the ancient ritual of sitting outside and raising up the trolls or going finnfara. The völur and þulur would sit all night at sacred sites, burial mounds or crossroads and commune with the spirits to gain wisdom from the world of the dead. This knowledge would enable them to help their communities in times of distress. When the Scandinavians were converted to Christianity this practice was forbidden, but many Sámi noaidi continued practicing útiseta until this day." - Mathias Nordvig

Sitting outside at night, when the veil is at its thinnest, has always been the most meaningful time of music making for not just myself, but for many musicians and cultures across the world. As an American musician, I learned about "the crossroads" in the blues tradition at a young age, which has many parallels with the practice of Útiseta in the Nordic tradition of days past. This track, Útiseta, in collaboration with the immensely talented Sun and Moon Dance, is my homage to the divine time of sitting under the stars and offering music as a means to speak with those beyond the veil.
