A typical pregnancy lasts 40 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) to the birth of the baby. It is divided into three stages, called trimesters: first trimester, second trimester, and third trimester. The fetus undergoes many changes throughout maturation.

Pregnancy stages.
1 to 4 week: The placenta, which transfers nutrients to the baby is a round in shape.
5 to 8th week: In this period the brain start growing rapidly. Other organs such as wrist, hands and leg grow in the same period and nervous system keep growing till the end of the eighth week and finally genitals start to form. At this stage the baby’s size is about 3 cm. And it’s weighs approximately 1 gram.
9 to 12th week: In this period fingernails, toenails and sense organs begin to develop. Bone start to become strong. Making baby strong enough to hold up her/ his head.
13th to 16th week : A this time hair begins to grow and eyes, ankle, neck and wrists become formed. The baby has more muscle tissues and his/her growth is rapid.You mauy begin to feel baby’s move.
17th to 20th week:The weight of the baby doubles than the previous two weeks and he/she starts stretching and kicking by now. Baby’s lungs start forming and skin becomes reddish in color.
21th 24th week: Eyes are fully develop along with blinking eyelids.The embryo become 12 inches long.
25th to 28th week: The fetus is 15 inches long by now and stabilizes itself. The baby starts reacting to the happenings of inside and outside the belly like sound, pain,
29th to 32 week: One can hearse the heartbeat of the baby by putting and ear to the pregnant lady’s abdomen. Baby can suck his/her thumb or fingers. The baby’s weight ranges between 1300 to 1350 grams.
33th to 36th weeks: By now the baby is 19 inches long and fully developed. Your baby acts more like newborn now, closing eyes when sleeping and opening them when awake. Baby weighs between 2 to 2.3 kg.
37th 40th week: At this time baby moves less due to tight space. Usually baby’s head is down to the birth canal.
