Anne Dieu-le-Veut: Born in Brittany, France, in 1661, Anne earned the moniker "Dieu-le-Veut," meaning "God wills it," due to her indomitable will. After her first husband's death, she challenged the renowned buccaneer Laurens de Graaf to a duel. Impressed by her courage, de Graaf proposed marriage instead. Anne sailed alongside him, openly embracing her femininity—a rarity among pirates. Captured by the Spanish, she endured three years as a hostage before release. Anne died in 1710, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and defiance on the high seas.
