Originality and authenticity. Clever lyrics. Diverse subject matter and content. Delivery and flow. All of these elements that make up a memorable rapper, unfortunately aren’t the ingredients that come to mind when describing the white rapper hailing out of Oakland California—G-Eazy. A one-hit wonder he is definitely not, having put out 17 mixtapes, EPs and studio albums since 2008, three of which earned Platinum certifications.

In terms of thorough hip-hop co-signs and collaborations, G-Eazy has a pretty impressive resume, recording with OG legends like the Oakland veteran Too Short, E-40, Raekwon, Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss, Styles P, Royce Da 5’9”, and Fabolous, and the younger era of emcees like Joey Bada$$, Dave East, Tory Lanez, Big Sean, Wale, Cardi B, and ASAP Rocky. But even after enough Platinum and Gold singles to retire off of, G-Eazy still ironically appears invisible in the realm of rappers. What exactly is it that makes G-Eazy hip-hop’s most generic mainstream rapper?
