Nicholas Oh is a project-based artist who centers on broader questions concerning race and political issues in the U.S. His current research comprises interviews of first generation immigrants of marginalized communities, historical archives researching the colonization of Korean culture, and investigations of material language. Oh uses a variety of sculptural processes: 3D scanning/printing, LED, wood, and clay. His sculptures are also used to create installation spaces and performances. Performances range from engagements with community to reconfigured dance choreographies. His films document and translate the performances and installation spaces into a cohesive narrative. He received his MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, in 2018, after graduating with a BA from San Francisco State University, San Francisco, 2015. Oh’s PW Residency was supported in part by a partnership with Rhode Island School of Design.
