The scandal of Jesus is his divine authority. How does Jesus demonstrate his divine authority? The authority of Jesus is both audacious and scandalous to those who don’t understand it. Jesus heals the sick, commands repentance, and works on the Sabbath—all acts that reveal his divine authority as the Son of God. As we reflect on Jesus' authority, we must recognize that He is not just a teacher or healer, but the sovereign Lord who commands us to live in the fullness of His grace, to repent of our sins, and to join in His ongoing work of renewal in the world. Listen in as we walk through John 5:1-18 and see how Jesus displayed His authority through these three ways: He has the authority to heal, He has the authority to command, and He has the authority to work.
