Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Soviet troops for ending what he described as the "total evil" of Auschwitz, marking the 80th anniversary of the Red Army's liberation of the Nazi death camp. When Soviet forces arrived at Auschwitz on 27 January 1945, they found 7,000 survivors, becoming the first Allied troops to uncover the horrors of the camp. President Putin reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the rights of all people to their ethnic, linguistic, and spiritual identities. He also vowed to combat anti-Semitism, Russophobia, and other forms of racism, emphasising the need to prevent the resurgence of such ideologies.
