CYCHOTIC (2.0) is a new Live AV performance by Max Dahlhaus and Defasten. Deconstructing our understanding of futurism, cyberpunk, science-fiction, and post-industrial landscapes, its existence challenges and reshapes our sense of immersion through highly dynamic audio-reactive set pieces traversing layers of meta-reality, in real-time digital 3D.

Merging elements of club and experimental with cinematic abstraction, the music weaves visceral sonic textures that bursts to reform into complex digital visions, calling towards an unstable new virtual era, like a synthetic digital exoskeleton in rapid evolution, holding together a decaying post-Anthropocene.

At its core, CYCHOTIC frames a perspective on the cultural clash of our present-day over-reliance/addiction with digital hypermodernity, materializing (un)known signifiers that bridge our insight into the technological, traditional, mythological, all at the intersection of Eastern and Western civilization.

Berlin-based music producer Max Dahlhaus intricately weaves emotive narratives with abstract contrasts in his music, transcending boundaries between cinematic, industrial, and experimental realms. The music is massive, yet clear, and his mixing technique is a masterclass in artistry.

Performances, collaborations, releases include: with Born in Flamez during Amplify Berlin, an audio-visual live set during CTM 2020, "No Hiraeth" EP with WRACK (2021) on Absurd TRAX. His album CYCHOTIC (Opal Tapes 2023) includes tracks with Grinderteeth, Miziguruka, Lamb, and Joana Ivanova.


Max's latest releases include the single "Ninsei Lane" (2023) on Over My Body and the EP "A Cracked System" (incl. Liliane Chlela, NAJIB, T5UMUT5UMU & xl.iks Remixes) (2022) on U N I Z O N E.

On his 2023 Asia tour, Max performed at OIL Shenzhen, AXIS Chengdu, ALL Shanghai, LOOPY Hangzhou, GROUNDLESS THEORY Beijing, 20Alpha in Hong Kong, and ENTER Tokyo.

Patrick Doan is a Canadian digital artist based in Berlin, he publishes under the username ‘‘defasten’’. With a background in design, film, and architecture, he now specializes in creating dynamic real-time 3D graphics.

Working mainly in the digital arts and music industry, his future-facing visual designs exist as audio reactive, generative, deconstructed geometric objects, establishing a simulated digital reality.

Patrick has exhibited in over 25 countries, including online. Events include: ISE 2024 (Barcelona), Beyond Basel 2023 (Art Basel Miami), Neo Shibuya 2023 (Tokyo), The New Museum (NYC), Ars Electronica, CTM 2021 Cyberia (with Xquisite Force SFX), Transmediale, with Suguru Goto at WWW in Tokyo (2016), MIRA 2021 with Azu Tiwaline, FLARE 2022 Shanghai, BRDG Channel 22 with Yaporigami (Tokyo 2020), SIGGRAPH.

As a member of the sonic research collective AUDINT from 2015 to 2021, they showed work at Unsound 2019, MIRA 2019, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Arebyte London, Sonar Istanbul 2017, Loop Berlin 2016, MUTEK Montréal 2015.

Patrick’s work is in the book The Age of Data by Christoph Grünberger, published on Niggli Verlag (2021), featuring works by 40 artists like Refik Anadol, Daito Manabe, Joshua Davis, Joëlle Snaith, Christopher Bauder, Quayola, Nonotak, and more. With foreword by Ian Anderson (The Designer’s Republic).
