The Wampler Pantheon overdrive pedal is Brian Wampler and co.’s take on the much-loved Marshall Bluesbreaker circuit. First an amp and then a pedal back in the early 1990s, the original Bluesbreaker stompbox gave guitar players a way to take their tame tube amps into rich, snarling British-flavored overdrive.

Marshall stopped making the original Bluesbreaker pedal fairly quickly though, and that paved the way for other FX builders to have a crack at the circuit – the most well-known derivatives today are probably the AnalogMan King Of Tone and Prince Of Tone, the JHS Morning Glory, the Snouse BlackBox… and this one, the Wampler Pantheon. (Marshall actually do still make a version of the pedal, by the way, but it’s never really found the love the original has.)

Get the Wampler Pantheon here:

This video is my take on the Pantheon, which Wampler bill as a transparent, dynamic overdrive pedal that takes the original BB circuit and adds Brian Wampler’s new features and functions. I’ve had the Pantheon a couple of years now and love it, and today I want to show you how it sounds in a range of styles with three of my favorite guitars: my Fender Stratocaster, my Fender Telecaster and my Epiphone Les Paul!

So, as usual, I play a bunch of riffs in my favorite styles. Each one is played three times: first with the Tele, then the Strat, and finally with the Les Paul. I tweaked the settings on the Pantheon for each riff, but the settings on my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 amp stay the same the whole time (clean channel all the way).

Afterwards, I do a loop with each guitar where I tweak the pedal’s knobs to show you all the extremes you can get with it if you so desire. I would love to know which guitar you think sounds best!

My setup was as follows: I ran the Pantheon pedal straight into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head. That went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my TC Electronic Ditto Looper to play the loops.

Here’s some links to those bits of gear:
