American singer-songwriter Tammi Terrell was born Thomasina Winifred Montgomery in North Philadelphia on April 29, 1945. Since her parents, Jennie and Thomas Montgomery, thought she would be a boy, they’d already decided to name her after her father. When she was born, they settled on the name Thomasina, nicknaming her Tommie.
