🗣️ Q&A with Ruubos 🗣️
⏳ How long have you been collecting and mixing for?
12 years.
💡 What sparked your interest in digging/collecting?
Both my parents were avid clubbers and dancers—my mum was deep into the early house scene in Liverpool, while my dad loved hip-hop and dub in South-East London. He even threw illegal raves, so I’ve been surrounded by music since birth.
🔍 Where do you find your music?
All sorts of places! I love finding entire Discogs selling lists from the right person. I also dig through record stores, Spotify, YouTube, and recently, AI-driven music discovery websites.
🎶 Any label/artist/collective recommendations for someone to start digging?
Speak to others and share your favorites. It’s more fun and rewarding that way! And always pick music that you truly enjoy—don’t hoard it just because it’s trendy.
🌟 Is there anyone that you take inspiration from? If so, who and why?
Frankie Knuckles, Larry Heard, and Larry Levan. The soul in their music hits me deeply. It reminds me of being in the back of my mum's car as a baby, and I wish I could make music that evokes emotions as powerfully as they do.
