As time passes, work and daily interactions help bridge the gap between the newcomers and the townspeople. Some refugees find jobs on farms or in workshops, while others share their skills—such as a former printer who resumes his craft at a local press. The film illustrates how strangers become neighbors, emphasizing that fear of the unknown fades when people live and work together.
The documentary concludes with Joseph, one of the refugees, returning to Europe to help rebuild his country, carrying with him the lessons and experiences of his time in Cummington. Through this narrative, the film highlights themes of integration, shared humanity, and the role of communities in welcoming displaced people.
