Country Pop “Tijuana Breeze” (5314) is a fun backing track for guitar (or any soloist!) in the key of E major with a tempo of 138 bpm. Play along and have fun!
The track is based on the chord progression 1 - 6m - 4 - 5 in E major. This results in the following chords:
1 = tonic = E major
6m = relative minor = C sharp minor
4 = subdominant = A major
5 = dominant = E major.
But in the middle section, a surprise awaits you: now it is C sharp major and not C sharp minor. This C sharp major is not part of the E major/C sharp minor tonality. So this borrowed chord brings a whole new, fresh color to the piece. In this C sharp major section, I also use a pedal point. The bass note remains constant while the harmony above it changes.
