We were kept up most of the night as a neighbours barn roof was being badly beaten by the extreme winds.
In the morning we left, as usual, to collect bread and hardware from the local village stores, but upon return Mandy spied something was amiss with our roof.
An attic inspection soon revealed tiles had slipped and an ancient cast iron sky-light was missing. The rain was due back in a couple hours. The only real option we had was an emergency fix.
Luckily, upon climbing up onto the roof we found the 150 year old glass had simply been sucked out of it's hole and just needed minor repairs. The metal frame and surrounding woodwork also needed attention but they would have to wait until summer. In summer, we will take the whole assembly out and replace the woodwork and draft-seal everything.
For now, a quick fix, will stop rainwater wrecking the house.
Although the view to Toulx-Sainte-Croix, we could also see that the chimney would need re-grouting. Luckily, that job was known about as was scheduled for the summer months.
