This segment of the drive showcases the true nature of this remote "highway." What Alaskans call a highway, others might call a challenging dirt road! We cross the epic and intimidating Susitna River Bridge at mile marker 79, a stunning feat of engineering in the middle of nowhere. With the Alaska Range to our north and nothing but wilderness for hundreds of miles, you really get a sense of how vast and wild this state truly is.
Along the way, we point out several key landmarks and mile markers, including the Brushkana River campground (mile 104) and Seattle Creek (mile 107), where our campsite awaits. You'll also learn a fascinating fact about the piles of straw you see along the road—a remnant of the professional dog mushers who use this highway as a training ground in the deepest part of winter! This drive is an adventure in itself, and finding our perfect spot to boondock for the night is the ultimate reward.
In this Alaska Travel Vlog, you'll see:
POV driving on the unpaved, muddy sections of the Denali Highway.
Spectacular drone footage of the historic Susitna River Bridge.
An inside look at real van life and remote camping in Alaska.
Information on landmarks like the Susitna Adventure Lodge & dog mushing trails.
The final leg of our journey to one of the best boondocking spots on the highway.
If you dream of driving through the Alaskan backcountry, this is a perfect look at what to expect. What's the most remote road you've ever traveled on? Share your story in the comments below!
