Florence is an Italian city on the Arno River, formerly the center of the Florentine Republic, the capital of the Medici Dukes and the Italian Kingdom. It is now the capital of the Italian region of Tuscany. As of 2025, the city's population is 362,353 people.
Piazza della Repubblica is a city square in Florence, Italy. In ancient Roman times, the site was a forum, and in the Middle Ages, a ghetto arose here, which was completely demolished during landscaping work when Florence was the capital of a reunited Italy. It was during this work that the city’s avenues and boulevards were created.
The Ponte Vecchio is a bridge in Florence located at the narrowest point of the Arno River, almost opposite the Uffizi Gallery. It is the oldest bridge in the city and the only bridge spared from destruction during WWII: it is believed that it was built in 1345 by the architect Neri di Fioravanti and has retained its original appearance to this day. Initially, there were butchers' shops here and today, there are jewelry stores and souvenir sellers. The closest bridges to it are the Ponte Santa Trinita and the Ponte alle Grazie.
Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, dominated by the great Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, is one of the main squares of Florence.
Piazza della Signoria is the main square of Florence, the seat of civil power and the heart of the city's social life. It is located in the central part of the old city, south of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. It was named after the Palazzo della Signoria (Palazzo Vecchio), which is the town hall of the city.
The Ponte Santa Trinità is a bridge in Florence over the Arno, which connects the historic center with the Oltrarno district.
