The Senate Environment & Public Works Committee held a hearing on “The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Proposed Fiscal Year 2024 Budget”, with the five NRC Commissioners on April 19, 2023.Senator Padilla applauds the Lawrence Livermore National Lab for their recent breakthrough in fusion ignition and asks how the new regulatory pathway for fusion will provide the pathway to ensure fusion energy can continue to advance in the years ahead. Chairman Hanson responds and remarks that the separate regulatory framework for fusion allows developers the ability to innovate while ensuring public safety.
