Elvis's '68 Comeback Special featured Darlene Love and the Blossoms.
Darlene Love was part of Phil Spector's wall of sound.
When Phil Spector wanted to record the follow-up to the Crystals' hit Uptown, the Crystals were unavailable for the recording session. Keen to push on, Spector recorded the Gene Pitney penned He's a Rebel, with one of his other artists, Darlene Love and her backing group the Blossoms.
Despite being recorded by Darlene Love, it was released under the name of "The Crystals." It gave Phil Spector his first Billboard #1.
The first the Crystals knew of the song was when they heard it playing on their car radio!
