The reason? It's not because it's expensive but because of how cheap it is.
The shop is located high up in the mountains. The only people who shop at his store are tourists and the few elderlies left in the village. Most people have long moved away leaving the elderly behind.
When this man left the village for 3 years he discovered that no one came to replace him leaving most villagers without the resources they need so he came back.
Everything in his shop has to be carried up the mountain. Round trip is around 8-9 hours by walking. Most people are unable to stand the gruelling journey so most don't stay. This man had a chance to leave, yet he came back to serve his community.
If you think he makes money from his shop at least, you would be wrong. The more people visits his shop, the more money he actually lose. He has to pay people to get the products up the mountain yet he price everything at city prices.
Most villagers knew what he is doing and he has received countless awards for his selfless acts. In his mind, he's serving the people, so if he has to lose some money along the way, he's okay with that. He's committed to stay until the last resident left.
