Well, hello all you foodies! Today we are taking you on yet another Argentine food tour, this time in the town of Villa La Angostura where we hit up numerous cafes, restaurants, breweries and chocolate shops in search of a taste of typical Patagonian cuisine. In today’s video, we’ll be eating in places like a cafe shaped like a cuckoo clock, a cosy restaurant serving up local specialities like deer and trout, a local joint best-known for its snow-topped pasta (it’s really just cheese), a colourful tea room that features savoury waffles, a local brewery where we learn to toast the proper way and stare people in the eye, plus we also sample lots of artisanal chocolates.

This right here is our Argentine food tour of Villa La Angostura in Patagonia, so we hope you guys are hungry!

🍽️ Epic Argentine Food Tour in Villa La Angostura, Patagonia | Cafes, Chocolate Shops, Breweries & Patagonian Cuisine!

🥐 Enchanting Brunch at Cuckoo Clocks Café

We start our food adventure in Villa La Angostura with a brunch at Cucu Schulz, a whimsical café designed like a cuckoo clock, filled with antique timepieces and flooded with natural light from its grand windows. The menu here is a delight for pastry lovers: Sam samples a Patagonian salmon sandwich with a squeeze of lemon, while Audrey dives into a coconut and dulce de leche tart. The apple tart—with walnuts, raisins, cinnamon, and crumble—reminds Audrey of her childhood in South America. Friendly staff and a cozy terrace make this a must-visit spot, and the $24 USD tab is mostly due to the premium sandwich, so cake and coffee are very affordable.

🐟 Local Specialties at Our Favorite Restaurant: Trout, Deer & Malbec

Next up is lunch at their favorite local restaurant, where regional Patagonian specialties take center stage. We sample two trout dishes—one with black butter and one baked in a creamy cheese and mushroom sauce, both accompanied by sides like mashed pumpkin and French-style potatoes. Despite the fish focus, Sam can't resist a bottle of Malbec, highlighting Argentina’s wine prowess. Complimentary fried empanadas, great bread, and impeccable service round out the meal, which totals $25 USD for two mains, wine, bread, and empanadas—an incredible value.

🍫 Chocolate Shops & Midday Treats

Patagonia is famous for its artisanal chocolates, so no visit is complete without a tasting spree. After lunch, we pick up regional chocolates with flavors like mint, strawberry, dulce de leche, almond paste, and Patagonian berries—perfectly split for sampling back at the apartment.

🧇 Mid-Afternoon Indulgence: Savory Waffles & Cheesecake

A colorful café called LaMotta draws us in for a unique twist: savory waffles topped with ham, sun-dried tomatoes, and cheese, paired with a zesty ginger-mint lemonade. Dessert is a massive slice of creamy cheesecake with forest fruits—a whipped consistency and loaded with berries, striking a balance between sweet and tart. Audrey falls in love with the flavor.

🍖 Traditional Patagonian Game: Hearty Hunter Stew with Deer

Locals rave about “hunter stew” made with deer, so we return to the same restaurant for this signature dish. The stew arrives in a thick, creamy mushroom sauce atop “natural” boiled potatoes, and the meat is melt-in-your-mouth tender with no gamy aftertaste.

🍻 Local Breweries: Toasting Like a Patagonian

No Patagonian food tour would be complete without sampling craft beers. At Lagos, we learn the local etiquette: raise your glass, lock eyes, and toast with “cheers!” before enjoying small “chop” beers (half-pints) and snacking on generous portions of hand-cut fries served with garlicky chimichurri-style dip.

🍫 Artisanal Chocolate Tasting at Home

Back at the apartment, we split up seven flavors of locally made chocolates—mint, strawberry, dulce de leche, almond, raspberry, and more. Each piece is bursting with regional flavors and Patagonian ingredients, a perfect end to a culinary day.
