Oh how I adored the Monitors. All of the group members who I worked with, thirty three years ago, are all dead now apart from Darrell Littlejohn. Warren Harris, the most memorable character I EVER met, reformed the group with Maurice Fagin, Hershel Hunter, a policewoman called Beverly, and Smokey Robinson's nephew Darrell Littlejohn. Warren was always in charge and he continually had the entire studio in stitches "Say what now ??" and "Heyyyyyyyyyyy". Their harmonies went seriously deeper than deep in five part harmony, with that unmistakable Detroit street-corner edge to them, all arranged to perfection by Warren, who wasn't just a comedian, but a musical genius. Sylvia Moy wrote this with me, with her ultimate best ever lyrics - "But I got all choked up last night, when you asked me how I've been doing these days, I've been standing still". Glorious perfection. Their other best song "YOU ARE MY DESTINY" is currently my biggest floorfiller on the Northern Soul scene. I miss these guys oh so much.
