British singer, songwriter, actress, model, and activist Leona Louise Lewis was born on April 3, 1985, in Islington, London, England. Her father, youth offending officer and DJ, is of Afro-Guyanese descent while her mother, a ballet teacher-turned-social worker, comes from Welsh, Irish and Italian ancestry.  Leona was raised in Hackney, East London, along with a younger brother and an older half-brother. From a very early age, her parents recognized her passion for singing and dancing.
