Forgot to mention a lot of things. This is what you get when you don't plan before you shoot. So here:
- The drums are Yamaha Oak Custom, and the bass drum is 22". Sticks are Balbex 5B hickory.
- There's no dampening on the drums at all and nothing inside the bass drum (the bass heads have built-in dampening rings thou)
- I've drilled experimental holes in the 12" china, I think it now works better when stacked
- I programmed a 2-bar midi count-in to be able to lock right into the backing track
- I used compression (dynamics -effect in cubase) on all four tracks and EQ on bass and snare for a little more low end and attack
- Gavin Harrison and Steven Wilson are not mortal men
- The camera is Canon EOS 500D and lens used was Tokina 11-16
- I combine the exported audio file and video files from the camera in Adobe Premiere Elements, then export for Youtube in mp4 format
- I've been doing drum covers lately because 1) it's fun 2) it's challenging, I need to have more discipline and to do more thinking BEFORE playing and I think I've got some room for improvement there. I'm used to improvising a lot even when recording and I don't seem to reach new levels with that approach anymore.
