Cesium reacts with water and the interaction occurs with an explosion. The interaction of cesium with water leads to the formation of cesium hydroxide and hydrogen gas: 2Cs0 + 2H2O = 2Cs+OH + H20. However, not all reactions with cesium result in an explosion. For example, if a small amount of cesium is used, the reaction will proceed calmly.
