You know Figaro, the barber and in the service of Count Almaviva. But what happens to the couples after these first two parts of Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais' Trilogy? Inspired by Beaumarchais' La mère coupable and Figaro lässt sich scheiden – Figaro divorce, David Pountney wrote a libretto for the composer Elena Langer. Premiered in Cardiff on 21 February 2016 at the Welsh National Opera, Pountney and Langer tell the story of Susanna, frustrated by her desire for children that is not shared by her husband, leaving Figaro. Hurt by his lack of attention and disappointed by his attitude towards her, Susanna asks for a divorce. A bittersweet comedy full of shadow and melancholy.

At the heart of this contemporary opera with multiple atmospheres - a beautiful encounter between the modern and shimmering writing of the British composer of Russian origin Elena Langer and the gripping Basel Sinfonietta conducted by Justin Brown - dominates the nebulous universe of a spy film, silhouettes on the run in a post-war fog on a stage shattered by graffiti, shadows and lights.
