Alright Gang, here it is— Peace, Love, Hippies! One of the "lost" songs of cult NJ band The Calliope! The band used to play it live but didn't record it at the time when they did their 2 singles. The song was written by Jimmy Bentley at Millburn Library in 1968, originally for another band from the same High School, The Elastic Band, but they liked it so much that The Calliope played it too! The girls at the Bay Head Yacht Club always liked it.
This recording features half of the band members, Jimmy Bentley on guitar and vocals, and Richard Hughes on drums. Bass is played either by Jimmy or Frankie C. This was recorded at Richard’s MWGB Studio (=Man With Golden Bong!) in Spring Lake NJ, in 1981-82. Then Jimmy sent it to Tom Whalley CEO of Warner Bros. He said “you should have left it in the 60’s!” Well, we're lucky he didn't!
The bare wood guitar seen in the picture is Jim's beloved '63 customized "Stratoblaster" he brought from Tom Lester of The Spyders, another Millburn High band. Richard Hughes had been playing with Johnny Winter's band in the 1970s and was operating his MWGB Studio. Rick Derringer had played with Jimmy Bentley's guitar "Stratoblaster" when Richard auditioned for Johnny Winter!
