Yala National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka, bordering the Indian Ocean. The park consists of five blocks, two of which are now open to the public, and also adjoining parks.
The area open to daily trips can get quite crowded, with queues of over 30 jeeps when a rare animal is found. Despite that, it is still a worthwhile trip, as we came across a leopard, crocodiles, elephants, wild boars and buffaloes, lizards, eagles, hornbills and numerous bird species.
