Dr. Scharf has conducted research in observational cosmology, exoplanetary science, and astrobiology. He is the author of multiple science and popular science books, and has won the Carl Sagan Medal for excellence in public communication of planetary science, as well as the 2011 Chambliss Astronomical Writing Award.
