August 2020 Edit:My heart was instantly broken when I heard the news of actor Chadwick Boseman's passing. I am grateful for the scriptwriters, director, entire production crew and stuntmen who contributed to the movie. There is no doubt in my mind however, that Chadwick carried a special grace for the character and poured his heart into the role of T'challa. In fact, it was his acting that placed such a heavy impact upon me in this movie. I was in a somewhat frustrated state as a creator and artist. Boseman's confidence in this role helped spark a fire in my own soul that gave way to new inspiration and vigor for the gift of creativity God has placed in my life. It was something about the way he said "I never freeze," that inspired a new confidence in me. His confidence also helped me with my own insecurities and self hatred that many Black men have to fight. When he walked off that ship to his mother in Wakanda, so proud and strong, I felt my own heart beat stronger in my chest. You can not play a role like that with such conviction, without actually believing in it. I believe he knew that it was not just acting that he was doing... it was the fulfillment of purpose. Thank you Chadwick. I never met you here on earth, but I hope to give you an embrace of gratitude and friendship in heaven one day. Wakanda Forever. Our God reigns.
