This build nearly broke me. I almost gave up entirely. But I persevered, and I'm so glad I did. In this video I'll hit the highlights of the build process and some sound samples.
There's a very special reason I built these kits I reveal at the end of the video so make sure you stick around for that.
I reached out to Brian Porter of Porter Pickups and told him why I was doing this project and he graciously agreed to provide the pickups at a discount. So these have boutique high quality pickups with jaw dropping tone.
I wired them in my normal way: complicated but versatile. The P bass split coils are wired to do series/parallel on a push/pull volume pot, and the push/pull pot for the J bass bridge pickup puts both pickups into either parallel or series mode. This provides an insane variety of great bass tones available with no active electronics. This honestly exceeds my expectations. Seriously, these Porter Pickups are phenomenal.
