Kevin Shields has been associated most heavily with the Alesis Midiverb 2 for its reverse reverb patches. However, there is another rack effect unit which also comes up in many a conversation regarding Shields' gear: The Yamaha SPX90. I believe hat he started with the Yamaha and then moved onto the Alesis Midiverb 2 for Loveless, whereby his vision was fully realised. The truth is, all of these rack effect units will get you in the right ballpark; even the Quadraverb has a reverse mode! In this trial, I am using the mark 2 version of the SPX90 which is basically the same as Mark 1 but with longer delay times, but all of the patches are the same, so don't go shouting through the screen that this is not a fair test ahaha!
