The Intersection is a series of eight monthly panel discussions between artists who heavily incorporate various STEM (science, technology, engineering, math)disciplines into their practice, and researchers and educators in related scientific fields. MOCAD will be partnering with Science Gallery Lab Detroit to activate these talks through public art installations and other events throughout the city. Science Gallery Lab Detroit is a new effort by Michigan State University that will take emerging research and ideas from the worlds of art, science, design, and technology and present them to 15–to 25–year–olds in connective, participative, and surprising ways.
This event is the inaugural conversation and pairs visual artist Sam Van Aken with Michigan State University Professor Dr. Beronda Montgomery. The discussion will be moderated by SGLD Director Troy Livingston, and together they will explore natural phenomena as a metaphor for ways to modify and transform our own environment and local conditions.
