Today, we're diving into Matt Pike's legendary First Act Custom Shop DC-9. This guitar features a unique string configuration, with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings paired in unison courses—much like the high strings on a 12-string guitar—while the 4th, 5th, and 6th strings remain standard single strings.

This DC-9 was Matt's main stage guitar throughout the mid to late 2000s, where it became a staple of his crushing live performances with High on Fire and the early reunion shows with Sleep. Though he has since retired it from live use, we’re incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to check it out firsthand. Holding such an iconic piece of gear, even for just a day, felt surreal—I've always considered it one of the coolest guitars ever made.
