In 1979, Artie Mogull, the head of United Artists, who released my Barbara Pennington hits, commissioned me to make two new albums for him, one was by The Flirtations singer Pearly Gates, also known as Viola Billips, and one by a discovery of Rick Gianatos who mixed most of my releases. She was an airline stewardess from San Francisco. Her name was Loretta Stokes and we recorded the whole album of which this was the title song. During that dark period in 1979 when America decided that disco was dead, and they blew up hundreds of thousands of 12 inch singles at Kaminski Park Stadium in Chicago, my two albums for Artie both disappeared without trace, until we put some tracks out from them on the Nightmare Gold series of 12"s, and in the end Hot records in Miami run by Paul Klein, put both unreleased albums out, so that they didn't just go to waste. Getting a video of Kidnap Me is very special to me personally because I adore this song, and I lost an absolute fortune making it, because I never ever got a single penny back. Nevertheless I'm just proud to see it like this.
