Barbados is being told to consider introducing a national boot camp for primary and secondary students causing problems in schools.
It's coming from Director of the Barbados Youth Advance Corps Hally Haynes at the At-risk Youth Foundation Youth Conference to commemorate World Children's Day.
Mr. Haynes says such a targeted intervention should focus on discipline and behaviour modification of these students before they are reintegrated in the regular school population.
He notes the same call was made by former Chief Education Officer, now retired Permanent Secretary Dr. Karen Best a few years ago when there was heightened discussion about the alarming incidents of youth violence in the country.
Meanwhile, Founding Director of the At-risk Youth Foundation, Dr. Lisa Jaggernauth, says there is a need to effectively eliminate violent thinking.
