The Nutcracker - op. 71, ballet by P. I. Tchaikovsky in two acts to a libretto by Marius Petipa based on the fairy tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E. T. A. Hoffmann. The libretto was based on an arrangement of the fairy tale made in 1844 by Alexandre Dumas père and published in the same year under the title The Story of the Nutcracker.
