Can we learn everything from nothingness? What is our Universe made of, how does it evolve? Sometimes, by looking away from the flood of information, we can get a novel, better perspective. The answer to these ambitious questions may come from the largest, darkest, quietest regions in the Universe: cosmic voids. Cosmologist, researcher, professor and team leader Alice Pisani brings the spotlight on why studying the under-dense regions in the wonderful maps of galaxies built by modern surveys will address the most challenging mysteries of modern cosmology.

Alice Pisani is an Italian cosmologist and principal investigator of the ERC (European Research Council) grant COSMOBEST. After working as a researcher and professor at Princeton University, at the Flatiron Institute and at the Cooper Union (US), she has, since 2024, joined the Center for Particle Physics in Marseille (France) with a CNRS position and obtained a Chaire d'Excellence at Aix-Marseille-University. Alice is a pioneer in the extraction of cosmological constraints from cosmic voids observed by modern surveys and she leads research from modern large-scale structure data sets.
