What does it mean when restaurant workers say something is "86"? It's actually a cool story.
Legend has it that a speakeasy on 86 Bedford Street in New York coined the term to let people know that the cops were coming and they needed to hightail it out of there.
Since then, it's been used as code by restaurant workers to let one another know that an item wasn't available.
We don't really use it around here, but the next time you're out to eat and you hear someone say something is "86'ed", you'll know why.
