5-year-old Timothy Wiltsey disappeared from a New Jersey carnival in 1991. His mom, Michelle Lodzinski, gave conflicting stories—at one point saying he was kidnapped by unknown men. A year later, his remains were found near where she worked.Michelle was convicted of his murder in 2016 after a dramatic trial. But the New Jersey Supreme Court later overturned the conviction, ruling there wasn’t enough evidence. The verdict was erased, replaced by an acquittal. Because of double jeopardy, Michelle can never be tried for Timothy’s murder again.
