Nobody saw her come in. Velvet Fontaine was already behind the organ when the band returned from their smoke break — candles lit, fur coat draped over the bench, and a glass of something purple sweating on the amp. She looked up once. Said nothing. Then played.
For the next 63 minutes, the room sank into a trance of late-night licks and whispery rimshots. One engineer swore the lights dimmed on their own. Another said he saw smoke rising off the Rhodes.
By the time the sun peeked in, Velvet was gone. No goodbye. No credits. Just a looped groove left spinning like a spell. We filed it under Velvet Room Sessions – Vol. 1, and prayed she’d come back.
