As people walk past him without stopping, one man took notice of him. And decided to stop by. He learned that the old man is 80 years old and sells newspapers for a living. However, he doesn't make much money doing this. He earns just enough for that day's meals everyday. Thankfully, he has no rent.
He's already used to the cold even though it is cold out. The young man bought a newspaper from him. And when a customer came and decided to leave because he didn't have the change, the young man paid for him instead. Telling him to come back another day to buy from the old man and don't worry about the bill that day as he'll cover it.
But that customer later came back to return the money after getting the change. The young man even told the old man to keep the change so he has change to give to customers when they come to buy his newspapers.
He never move spot in 20 years because he wants his customers to know where to find him. He doesn't have that many in a day but he's always glad to see them and doesn't want them to miss their newspaper.
The young man also bought books from him, each books was $10. He also got the old man hand warmers. Those are disposable ones so they can't be recharged but you can see how happy it made him and just like that, they became friends.
