Mt Ngauruhoe was a location shoot for Mt Doom from Lord of the Rings, and I get to fly over it in my Ventus cT glider.
Flying over the central North Island, we manage to escape from Matamata, get low over Taupo forests, then cruise down to Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe for some of the most spectacular flying possible in the North Island.
