Step 1: Make Your Sauce
Into a food processor or blender, add mayo, crispy onions, ketchup, bread & butter pickles with juice, celery seeds, mustard, and salt & pepper.
Pulse until well-combined while still a little chunky.
Step 2: Make Your Patties
Season some ground beef and separate it into equally-sized balls. Heat a griddle to high heat and add thinly sliced onions into shallow piles, making sure not to crowd the griddle.
Add your beef balls on top of the onions and use a press or spatula to flatten them into thin disks.
Let these cook until you see the onions begin to caramelize. Flip and immediately place a slice of American cheese on top of each patty along with the top half of your bun.
Place a heat-safe container on top to let everything steam.
Step 3: Assemble Your Burgers
Add some of your homemade sauce and a few bread & butter pickles to the bottom half of your bun.
Stack your patties on top and you're ready to enjoy.
I love a good smash burger, but I'm not interested in paying out the nose for one at a restaurant.
Now, you can make them at home but 10x better.
