UFO's second studio album, UFO 2: Flying, was released in October 1971. The album represents the band's early space rock sound and is also the last studio album to feature guitarist Mick Bolton.
Like the subtitle "One Hour Space Rock," the album features a running time of about an hour and a long track. Specifically, the title track "Flying" is the longest song in the band's history, with a run of 26 minutes and 30 seconds.
UFO 2: Flying pursues a more experimental space rock sound than its predecessor, and creates a unique atmosphere through its long song composition and various sound effects. In particular, "Flying" stands out as an experimental element, such as inserting a verse from Rudyard Kipling's poem "Gunga Din" by backing up.
The album did not receive much attention in the U.K., but it gained popularity in Japan, France, and Germany. Especially in Germany, "Prince Kajuku" was released as a single, reaching No. 26 on the chart
