The Band Aid single "Do They Know It's Christmas" organized by Bob Geldof and featuring Bono, Sting, Simon LeBon, Paul Weller and many others, is released to aid Ethiopian famine victims. Prince releases the film and soundtrack album Purple Rain which charts at #1 US for 24 weeks.
